What is Kombucha?
Kombucha is a naturally fermented tea beverage that has been enjoyed for centuries due to its potential health benefits and unique tangy flavor. Made by fermenting sweetened tea with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY), kombucha transforms into a slightly fizzy, refreshing drink. It is available in a variety of flavors, from fruity and floral to spicy and herbal, making it a versatile addition to any lifestyle.
How is Kombucha Made?
- Brewing the Tea: Black, green, or oolong tea is brewed and sweetened with sugar to create the base.
- Fermentation: The SCOBY is added to the sweet tea and left to ferment for 7-14 days. During this process, the SCOBY consumes sugar, producing beneficial acids, vitamins, and probiotics.
- Flavoring and Bottling: After fermentation, natural flavorings like fruits, herbs, or spices can be added before bottling the drink. The bottled kombucha is then left to carbonate for a few days, resulting in a fizzy and flavorful beverage.
